Preserving the Child
How will we sustain the innocence, genius and beauty of the child?
First, we will nurture that beauty from its very beginning.
We will surround the child with Torah and sing to it songs of wisdom
even before it leaves the womb.
We will make the child's room into a sanctuary with holy books,
posters with thoughtful messages hanging
on the walls and a charity box to be used daily.
And then, as the child emerges to discover that the world outside
is not quite the same as that sanctuary inside, we will explain:
"Yes, this is not the way it is supposed to be. But it is only temporary.
It's left up to you and I and all of us to change it, right now."

Wesley Hills Message.
On Thursday November 26th (Thanksgiving), there will be no trash pickup in the Village.
The carter will be picking up the entire Village on Friday. Because that is more time consuming, your Friday pickup may be later in the day.
Please remember that bulk trash pickup and leaf pickup is at the curb only. If you have a large number of leaf bags or bulk items, make sure to line them up along the curb, and not along the length of your driveway. The carter will not go up the driveway to retrieve leaf bags or bulk items.
Thank you for your cooperation and have a happy Thanksgiving,
David

Community Message- Wesley Plaza Shopping Center
mayor@wesleyhills.org
show details 1:44 PM (1 hour ago)
Hi,
Please note that we have been informed by the Ramapo Police that they will not wait until January to start enforcing the new no left turn sign at the Wesley Plaza Shopping Center. Because the landlord installed the new signs, they must now be enforced. I asked the NYS DOT if we could cover the signs temporarily until everyone was notified and aware of the new rules, but that request was refused.
I am actively working with the managing agent of the property to address some problems with the signs as well as other traffic issues in the parking lot.
There are flyers in several of the stores informing shoppers of the new traffic pattern. Please pass the word on to anyone you know, so that nobody has to get a ticket for being unaware of the new rules.
Thank you,
David
*** NOTICE OF NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ***
Please note that for the safety of residents, some changes have recently been made to the Wesley Plaza shopping center. Vehicles traveling North on Route 306 (from Grandview Avenue towards Willow Tree Road) will no longer be allowed to make a left turn into the South entrance (opposite Village Green). To enter the shopping center, northbound vehicles need to proceed to the main entrance that faces the bank. This change was recommended by the New York State Department of Transportation as a result of numerous accidents and near misses with cars coming out of Village Green. Additional changes are in progress as to how and where commercial deliveries will be made. Commercial vehicles should enter from Willow Tree Road, proceed to the rear of the building only, and exit onto Route 306 from the South entrance.
The Village had requested prior notice of when this change was going to take effect, so that we could educate residents of the new traffic pattern. Unfortunately, that did not occur, and the new signs and striping were installed last week.
As a result, we have asked the Ramapo PD not to issue any summonses for violations of the new rules until the New Year. This should allow sufficient time for everyone to get used to the new rules.
Thank you for your cooperation

The Drama
All the cosmos came to be because G-d chose to invest His very essence in a great drama:
The drama of a lowly world becoming the home of an infinite G-d. A marriage of opposites,
the fusion of finite and infinite, light and darkness, heaven and earth.
We are the players in that drama, the cosmic matchmakers.
With our every action, we have the power to marry our mundane world to the Infinite.

Real Idols
Abraham worshipped idols as did his father, Terach.
Abraham was an intelligent man, as was Terach.
But Abraham came to recognize the falseness of the idols, while Terach stayed behind.
Because Terach never truly believed in the idols and never truly worshipped them.
But when Abraham worshipped idols, it was with all his heart, mind and soul,
every hour of the day and night. It had to be real.
Everything Abraham did had to be real. And therefore, he found truth.

Power on Your Own
Nobody believed Noah.
But Abraham, some say, convinced most of his generation.
Noah talked as someone who followed a tradition of the past.
Abraham described how he had discovered G-d on his own.

Town Message- Indian Point Siren Test
A full volume test of the new alert and notification sirens located
throughout the emergency planning zone will be held Thursday, October 22,
2009 at approximately 10:30 a.m. The sirens will sound for four minutes.
The siren system may be tested for sound again in the afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
if an additional test is determined to be needed during the morning
sounding.
In an actual emergency, the new sirens would sound simultaneously at full
volume for four minutes. The sirens are not a signal to evacuate but rather
to alert the public to tune to their local Emergency Alert System (EAS)
radio or television station (100.7 FM-WHUD) for important information.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Fire & Emergency Services at
1-800-942-1450, should you have any questions.

Natural Response
There is an easy path to fulfill the Torah as it is meant to be fulfilled. Not by forcing yourself,
nor by convincing yourself, but by achieving awareness:
A constant awareness that all you see and hear, the wind against your face,
the pulse of your own heart, the stars in the heavens and the earth beneath your feet,
all things of this cosmos and beyond…
…all are but the outer garments of an Inner Consciousness, a projection Its will and thoughts.
Nothing more than Its words to us, within which It is concealed.
And the Master of that consciousness speaks to you
and asks you to join Him in the mystic union of deed and study.
In such a state of mind, could you possibly choose otherwise?

Shofar
By Tzvi Freeman
There are things that are important to us, so we speak about them.
There are things so important to us that the words flow out in
a burst of emotion, rich words, expressive and vibrant.
And then there are things that shake us to the core.
Things that do not care for the mind's permission or for the right words—
for the mind cannot fathom them, the most poignant words could not contain them.
Things that can only break out in a cry, in a scream, and then in silence.
This is the sound of the shofar: The very core of our souls crying, "Father! Father!"

My Dad, the King
By Tzvi Freeman
On Rosh Hashana, we call G-d both king and father:
King, in the most ultimate sense of kingship: the
One who dictates what exists and what does not.
Father, because there is something of Him within each of us—
and therefore we dictate along with Him.

G-d's Lawyers
By Tzvi Freeman
On Rosh Hashana, G‑d takes Himself to court. He looks down from
above at this world and, as I'm sure you may realize, it doesn't always look so good.
G‑d is within this world as well. He is found in every atom of this world.
It may sound strange, but this is what is happening: He as He is above takes Himself,
as He is present within this world, to trial.
Only the soul of Man can argue on His behalf. So we do that, as lawyers for the defense.
All that is required is to awaken the G‑dliness within our own souls.
The spark of G‑d within us below connects with the Infinite Light of G‑d above.
The circuit is complete and the universe is rebooted with a fresh flow of energy for an entire year.

Jewish Unity
By Tzvi Freeman
The first thing needed to fix this world is that Jews
should love each other and be united. And this can
begin even without a planning committee and without funding.
It can begin with you.
From the wisdom of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, of righteous memory
"In finances, be strict with yourself, generous with others."

Reason To Celebrate
If you did things right, celebrate that you have a G-d who appreciates your good work.
And if you fell on your face, celebrate that you have
a G-d who does not abandon you when you fall.
Perhaps you might even allow Him to pick you up.
