Time Machine
By Tzvi Freeman
If you could travel back in time, what could you change?
The world, its past and its present all belong to the Creator,
and it is just as He wills it to be. The only significant change
you could make is in your liability and culpability for the mess-ups
that occurred. And that you can change without a time machine as well --
through sincere remorse and resolve for the future.
From the wisdom of  Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, of righteous memory

DAILY DOSE:
The Freedom Connection
By Tzvi Freeman
We are limited by the very fact that we have human form.
There is no freedom in following our whim,
only further slavery to our own limited selves.
Freedom can only come by connecting to something infinite and beyond us.
And so Moses was told,
"When you take the people out from Egypt,
you shall all serve G-d on this mountain."
From the wisdom of  Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, of righteous memory

Library Budget Vote and Trustee Election Today  Wednesday, April 22
from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the library

PROPOSED BUDGET 2009-2010
Personnel & Benefits:     $5,432,032
 Collections & Programs:    $656,400
 Equipment & Supplies:      $193,275
 Maintenance & Building:    $409,800
 Other Expenses:            $311,350
 Total Proposed Budget:     $7,002,857

Dear Neighbors,
For just under $16 — $15.68 to be exact for a home in the East Ramapo School District with a fair market value of $440,000 — our community will have a fully funded library with full weekend hours, robust programming and a growing collection of materials that meet your needs.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, you, the voters of the East Ramapo School District, have the opportunity to vote on the Finkelstein Memorial Library’s 2009-10 budget. As demand for the library’s programs and services increase each year, we work to design the library’s budget to keep pace.
Last year, when voters turned down the 2008-09 budget, the library was forced to operate with the same funding it did the previous year resulting in a net shortfall of $260,000 in needed operating funds. Because the budget failed, the library was forced to cut weekend hours including closing the library both Saturday and Sunday from July 5th through August 31st,
limit the number of items you could check out at one time,
cancel Sunday afternoon programming for the entire summer, and
curtail purchases of new books and bestsellers.
In April, you’ll have the opportunity to vote on the library’s proposed $7 million budget. It will reverse the cuts made last year and provide the library with the resources it needs to continue to provide you with the programs and services you have come to expect for you and your family. We’ve kept the cost to you down — the average household in the school district will only see an increase of $15.68.
If the budget passes, among the things the library will be able to do are:
restore summer weekend hours
raise the check out limit
increase computer access
restore seven-day bestseller lending
maintain full security coverage
meet contractual salary increases without cutting jobs or making other reductions,
and avoid new sanctions at other area libraries against Finkelstein cardholders.
