When you find the Infinite, where will you put it?
In your broken vessel? It will not stay. In a new whole one?

This is the secret that Man holds over the angels:
Only the human heart can be broken and whole at once.

Creating a Need for Wisdom
By Tzvi Freeman
I
f G–d had made a perfect world, what need would there be for wisdom?
So He left shattered vessels for us to repair. And in doing so, we engage a wisdom deeper
than that which fashioned the earth, the sun and the stars.

Growing Each Day: (Excerpts):
Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski
If you return, O Israel ... you shall return unto Me (Jeremiah 4:1).
Elul, a period of time which is particularly propitious for teshuvah,
for it precedes Rosh Hashanah, the Day of Judgment.
The Sages say that the Hebrew letters of the word Elul, form an acrostic
for the verse in
Song of Songs: I am devoted to my Lover and He is devoted
to me (6:3).
Song of Songs utilizes the relationship between a bridegroom and
his betrothed to depict the relationship between God and Israel. Any separation
between the two causes an intense longing for one another, an actual "lovesickness" (ibid. 2:5).
The love between God and Israel is unconditional. Even when Israel behaves in a manner
that results in estrangement, that love is not diminished. Israel does not have to restore God's love,
because it is eternal, and His longing for Israel to return to Him is so intense that at the first sign
that Israel is ready to abandon its errant ways that led to the estrangement, God will promptly embrace it
.
Song of So
ngs depicts the suffering Israel as sustained at the hands of its enemies,
and we can conclude that the Divine distress at this suffering of His beloved Israel is grea
t.
 Teshu
vah is a long process, but all that is needed for the restoration of the ultimate relationship
is a beginning: a sincere regret for having deviated from His will, and a resolve to return.

Today I shall
...
.. seek to restore my personal relationship with G-d by dedicating myself
to teshuvah.

DAILY DOSE:
The Doctor
Why do we go to a doctor? Does a doctor give life?
We go to the doctor because we need to repair not just our souls,
not just our bodies, but our world as well.
We have made a world that brings sickness.
That same world must now bring life.
A Daily Dose of Wisdom from the Rebbe
-words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman

GROWING EACH DAY:
RABBI ABRAHAM J. TWERSKI
A person should do everything in an orderly manner (Rabbi Yisrael of Salant).
Rabbi Yisrael of Salant founded the
mussar movement, a formal and
programmed study of ethics. All his writings deal with ways to achieve
spirituality. How can orderliness and organization be a method to achieve spirituality?
People on vacation use their time haphazardly. They arise at any time of the day and
let their whim determine their activities.
They feel no accountability and no purpose in what they are doing.
The essence of Judaism is the concept that each person has a mission on this earth.
There are no "after-work" hours, and one is never really on vacation from working
toward an ultimate goal. While judicious rest and relaxation are necessary
for optimum health, they are in fact part of the "workday." One cannot do things
according to whim. Within reasonable parameters,
a person's life should be orderly and scheduled.
Employees are held accountable for time while they are on the job.
Schedules allow for lunch and for coffee breaks, but they are not free
to do whatever they wish, whenever they wish.
A person should know that we are on earth "on a job,"
and since we are accountable for every minute,
it is essential that we have order in our lives
.
Today I shall
...
.. try to bring greater order into my life, knowing that I am here for a specific mission.

DAILY DOSE:
W
asting Life on Purpose
Once you have found the meaning of life,
will there be enough life left to live meaningfully?
Better to live life as meaningfully as you know how,
and find more meaning as you go along.
You will gain and so will those you influence.
A Daily Dose of Wisdom from the Rebbe
-words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman

GROWING EACH DAY:
Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski
Because God is in Heaven and you are on the earth,
therefore let your words be few
(Ecclesiastes 5:1).

I remember reading that every person is born with an allotted number of words
that one may speak during one's lifetime. When this allotment is exhausted,
one's life comes to an end. This idea would explain the above verse: God is infinite,
but people live in a finite world where everything has its limitations.
Some things may be greater, other things may be less, but nothing on earth is infinite.
Since the number of words a person may speak must also be finite,
we should speak as little as possible simply to extend our lives.
Even if one does not accept this concept as factual, it is an excellent guideline.
People on a fixed income will budget themselves carefully, since any unwise
expenditures may deprive them of the means to obtain necessities.
If we think of our words as being limited, then those squandered in non-essential
conversation have become unavailable to us for more important things.
When we discover that we have wasted money, we are likely to become
very upset with ourselves. We usually then resolve to be more cautious
and discriminating in our future purchases. Let us now think back on how many words
we have wasted, and even if they were not outright lies or slander, nevertheless,
they were simply useless. We would be wise to make a reckoning of our words as well
as our money and similarly resolve not to be wasteful of them in the future.
Today I shall ...
.. consider my words as valuable assets which, while in sufficient supply,
are nonetheless limited; I will therefore try to act accordingly.

Beginning on the 15th of Av, one should increase one’s study of Torah,
since at this time of the year the nights begin to grow longer
and "the night was created for study."

The last Mishnah in Masechet Taanit says,
"There were no holidays so joyous for the Jewish People as the Fifteenth of Av
and Yom HaKippurim, for on those days, daughters of Yerushalayim would go out

Memorializing the Murdered through the Teachings of their Master
The eight young men murdered on March 6, 2008 in
Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav in Jerusalem were all
fourth or fifth generation students of the revered
founder of that Yeshiva, more than eighty years ago,
Rav Abraham Isaac Kook. The teachings of Rav Kook
emphasize love of the Land of Israel and the People of Israel.
It would be especially appropriate to memorialize
these boys by perpetuating his teachings. To that end,
The OU  plan to deliver a brief weekly lesson, based on his teachings,
for the duration of the year of mourning, concluding Rosh Chodesh Adar, 5769.

DAILY DOSE:
A Quiet Heart
The human heart is beautiful.
The human heart can know secrets deeper than any mind could know.
The mind cannot contain G-d, but deep inside the heart there is a place that can.
Yet there is nothing more dysfunctional than a brain controlled by emotions
In fact, the finest mind is capable of the most horrid crimes when under the heart's management.
Let the heart be quiet and hear out the mind. In that quiet listening,
she will discover her true beauty and her deepest secrets will awaken.
