There have been several Black bear sightings over the weekend in the area.
It appears to be a young bear foraging for any food it can find.
In general, black bears are not aggressive and will try to avoid contact with people.
However, all wild animals can be dangerous if trapped or scared. It is best to try to avoid attracting them to your property.
If possible, do not leave food type trash out overnight. Also avoid bird feeders placed on the ground that they can reach.
If you do see a bear, stay inside. You can call the Ramapo PD to alert them to the sighting (357-2400).
The police will come out and try to get the bear to move along.
